Do-It-Yourself

These installation guides will help you through every step of your latest do-it-yourself project.

Carpet
Installing your own carpet isn't the impossible task you might imagine. It does involve specialized tools (which you can usually rent) and using some muscles you probably didn't know you had.
Hardwood
A level, smooth sub-floor surface is very important. Irregularities in the surface of the sub-floor must be removed before installation.
Laminate
Laminate installation processes and materials may vary between manufactures. Please consult your retailer before beginning any home installation, so as not to void your product warranty.
Vinyl
Most vinyl floor installations can be completed in one or two days by a single worker. If restructuring is needed, extra time will be necessary.
Ceramic
Tile may be installed over most structurally-sound substrates, if they are clean, smooth, dry and free of wax, soap scum, and grease. Any damaged, loose, or uneven areas must be repaired, patched, and leveled.
Wall Tile
Begin by finding the center point of the wall, using a level to draw a plumb line in the wall's center. Lay out a row of loose tiles across the bottom of the wall from the center line, leaving uniform joints between tiles.
