Dave Griggs' Flooring America — Helping customers make a smarter choice for a better future.

At Dave Griggs' Flooring America we believe we have the responsibility to support environmentally conscious companies and products. Throughout our showrooms you can find “green products”-products that focus on environmentally friendly materials and processing techniques. While many of these products appear to be no different than the next-special consideration has been taken in the development and production of these evolutionary products.

By making a “smart” purchase, customers can rest assure that their products will give their home an unsurpassed radiance while supporting a better future for our environment. Come in and take a look at the various products that Dave Griggs supports and not only make a difference in your home but in the environment in which we all call home.

Here are a few products that we offer that are making a difference:

Bamboo Flooring
Offered from various vendors, bamboo is a great alternative to standard hardwood. Bamboo is actually a grass that is harvested around the age of 5 ½ to 6 years. Because it’s a grass bamboo can be harvested again and again, leaving behind a thriving plant. Bamboo products also contribute to certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System.

Cork Flooring
Cork is another unique alternative to hardwood flooring. While traditional harvesting of hardwood requires the tree to be cut down, cork harvesting occurs when about one third of the trunk is stripped of its bark, approximately every 9 years. Harvesting can begin when the tree reaches the age of 25 and continues until the tree reaches maturity around the age of 150. Usually done by hand, the harvesting is a delicate process so not to harm the living tree. -Courtesy of Expanko and Design Materials

Natural Fiber Carpets
Wool is a great alternative to synthetic carpet fiber, providing customers with a naturally stain-resistant product while also offering customers a non-allergenic alternative that will not support bacterial growth. Due to its three-dimensional spiraling crimp, wool is naturally resistant to compression under foot or by furniture.

Coir, Sisal, Mountain Grass and Seagrass are great choices for an easy to maintain floor. Made from grasses and reeds, these products are replenished very quickly after harvest and are strong, durable, colorfast products that are great alternatives to other types of carpet and hard surface.

Linoleum
True linoleum is made from renewable raw materials including linseed oil, wood powder and pigments. After mixing the materials together and rolling it flat between two cylinders, the product is placed on roles and allowed to cure. The result is a naturally durable material that is offered in various colors for consumers to choose from. Made from renewable raw materials and recycled content, linoleum also helps builders obtain LEED points towards their project. NOTE: Linoleum should not be confused with resilient flooring (aka Vinyl) which is made chemically manmade.

Shaw Carpet Tile
In recent years Shaw has come out with a new type of carpet tile backing, EcoWorx. This product contains 40% recycled content contributing to USGC LEED certification standards. EcoWorx tile backing provides a sustainable alternative to PVC that is superior in durability and value by offering unsurpassed tensile, tear and lamination strength. Shaw believes in this product so much that they will even pick up your old EcoWorx so they can recycle it back into the manufacturing process to continue making more EcoWorx carpet tile backing!

American Hardwood
If hardwood is still the top choice on your list, consider American hardwood vs hardwood from overseas. American hardwood companies have been working very hard to change their harvesting and manufacturing techniques to meet consumers’ demands for more eco-friendly building products. In an effort to insure thriving forests in the U.S. for future generations, these companies have focused strongly on replanting new forests. Actually, nearly twice as much hardwood grows each year as is harvested in the U.S. For this reason, the volume of hardwoods in American forests today is 90 percent larger than it was 50 years ago.

... and don't forget ...
Dave Griggs’ Flooring America is the only dealer in the Mid Missouri area to recycle cushion. Current rates are 5 cents a pound cash or 7 cents a pound store credit. Foam must be clean, dry and free of any foreign materials such as staples, nails or blades. By recycling cushion we are able to keep thousands of cubic yards out of our landfills each year.
